Cultural Competency

At our most recent Delegate Assembly, MSCF adopted a resolution recommitting MSCF to identifying and working to end systemic racism and advancing equity and inclusion in our colleges, our communities, and within MSCF. These efforts will be ongoing and take many forms, but as a first step, we invite all members to participate in Cultural Competency training provided by Education Minnesota and MSCF.

The training will consist of four online asynchronous modules and two virtual debrief sessions: the first after completing Modules 1 & 2 and the second after completing Modules 3 & 4. Each module takes approximately two hours to complete, and the debrief sessions will be approximately 90 minutes. To allow for productive discussion, the debrief sessions will be limited to 15 participants, and registration is required.

The online modules are in Education Minnesota's LearnUpon/MEA Online platform. Instructions for creating an account and accessing the online modules can be found here:

As we have been forcefully reminded of in recent months, we all have much work to do to ensure our classrooms, our communities, and our union are truly equitable and welcoming spaces for all. By engaging in this work together, we can learn from each other, support each other, and achieve what we could not individually.

The Fall semester sessions have all been completed.  If you are interested in participating in Spring semester sessions, please contact Janel Engesser at janel.engesser@edmn.org or Gretchen Long at gretchen.long@edmn.org.

If you have any questions or problems with the registration, please email Gretchen.long@edmn.org.

In Solidarity,

Gretchen Long

Secretary, MSCF
