Rep. Melissa Hortman
8710 Windsor Terrace
Brooklyn Park, MN 55443
Hortman is in her sixth term, having first been elected in 2004. She has been a strong advocate of the two-year colleges - including capital investment projects - within the MnSCU system. She is a pragmatic moderate in a swing district who enjoys the discussion of energy policy, transportation and supporting public higher education.
She has served in the past on the K - 12 Education Committee and is currently working on legislation to help reduce student debt for those who select careers in public higher education.
Sen. Jim Metzen
312 Dearwood Court
South St. Paul, MN 55075
Metzen is a veteran of the state Capitol, who has been elected to 10 terms in the Minnesota Senate after serving six terms in the Minnesota House. He is the chair of the Legislative Coordinating Commission’s Subcommittee on Employee Relations, which ratifies the contracts of higher education and other bargaining units, as well as state agencies. Metzen has led the assertion that we should pay our public employees a good wage for all they do, and he has stood up for faculty rights including benefit packages, pensions and salaries over the years.
Metzen has been very active in capital investments. He has supported the Dakota County Technical College, Inver Hills College, Century College and projects on the Iron Range, Rochester, Wilmar and Fergus Falls over the years. Through the course of his career, he has garnered a reputation for fairness and bipartisanship. Metzen is truly an ally of the MnSCU system and, specifically, the Minnesota State College Faculty.
